Soul Sundays: Emma Acapella

April 12, 2010

Ok, first off, Soul Saturdays just turned into Soul Sundays before your very eyes. How did this happen you might say? Well, let’s just say it was divine intervention. It’s still an alliteration and it gives me more one more day to get it together – plus, Sundays are a bit more soul-full, even for the secular like myself. This week we have a groovy acapella version of the song “For Emma” by Bon Iver. Bon Iver is a group/brainchild of Justin Vernon that dates back to 2007. His lush folksy album For Emma, Forever Ago, recorded in a cabin in Wisconsin over a three-month period, took the indie world by storm in 2008 and he’s been a household name for the hip ever since (yes, the album is off the hook and you should listen to it). The following piece is taken my from their set at La Blogotheque – a really neat project in itself that records artists doing their songs documentary-style across the enchanting Paris terrain.

Check out the original version of this song here and the rest of Blogotheque set here (“Skinny Love” is amazing).

I’m sure we can find someone for you to talk to.
